What's happening at Teagarden Quarter Horses

December 12, 2011.  What a great week at the BFA Futurity in Oklahoma City.  We spent the
day watching the barrel races and the evenings watching the NFR.  Not much sleep but lots of
fun.  Congratulations to our friends Tom and Linda Kay.  They have had an awesome futurity
year and we got to see "Opie" (by PC Frenchman) make a nice run in the futurity finals to
place 16th in the average out of over 400 horses.  Their juvenile horse "Rocky" by
Firewaterontherocks tied for 7th in the 2nd round.  He would have been high in the average
but barely tipped a barrel in the first go round.  What nice colts!  Congratulations.

We were excited to see Rocky and other colts by FWOTR run in the juvenile.  A second colt
placed 5th in the juvenile average.  We're looking forward to sending our FWOTR's babies go
to great homes and making some barrel racers happy.
There were several Designer Red colts in the finals of the futurity and derby.  These babies
by Designer Red just get better and better as they mature.  We have a nice 2007 daughter of
DR ready to start on barrels.  Give Real Red Design a close look if you are searching for a
serious prospect.  We sold two colts by Designer Red to North Carolina and they are both 1D
horses.
We need to update our pictures but we have some really nice 2010 fillies by FWOTR, As
Good As Nick Gets, Heza Tigeraflame and Rare Jet Extremes.  Our 2011 foals include colts
by FWOTR and Heza Tigeraflame and fillies by As Good As Nick Gets and Famous Bugs.
In 2012 we will have foals by FWOTR, Judge Cash (sire of Brenda Mays Jethro), Sunfrost
Wonder (by Sunfrost out a Wonder Otoe mare) and Heza Tigeraflame.  We have bookings for
2013 foals to Chasin Firewater and Firewaterontherocks.  We were really impressed with the
Firewater Flit grandget at the futurity.

August 29, 2011.  We just returned from a trip to western South Dakota.  We attended the
Fulton Sale on Friday at Lincoln, NE and the Myer sale on Saturday at Spearfish, SD.  We
think the recession is over in the horse industry!  Both sales were very strong.  Fulton's sold
21 two year olds, mostly by a Streak of Fling plus consignments from others.  The Streaker
colts were very athletic and attractive and averaged close to $15,000 (our unofficial
computation).  Myers sold 51 weanlings, yearlings, 2 year olds and a few 3 year olds to
average over $15,000 (again, our unofficial estimate).  The offering included colts by
Frenchman's Guy, A Smooth Guy, Hot Colors and World Speed. Both ranches offered a great
set of horses and it was an honor to see the results of their breeding programs.
The top 20 geldings at the July Billings sale averaged over $7,500.  Several were grade
geldings.  Well bred, well broke horses are marketable.  Stop by and see our yearlings and
weanlings.  We also have three well broke geldings for sale.  See the for sale page.
August 22, 2011.  The 2011 babies are just looking awesome.  Abby and Alexandra Umphenour
came to visit and we caught all of the babies, haltered them, rubbed them, led them and
wormed them.  We also took new pictures.  I got our colt by Heza Tigeraflame posted on the
front page, but need to choose and post the rest.  Our colt by Firewaterontherocks is big,
stout and pretty.  He comes right up when you walk in the lot.  His mother is a 1D producer
and he is going to make someone an awesome barrel horse.  The filly by As Good As Nick Gets
is also very people friendly.  She is very balanced and pretty.  Her mother is by Title
Contender.  This filly is also a great prospect.  She also has beautiful markings and can be
registered both AQHA and APHA.  My paint friends tell me she will easily make the regular
paint registry.  Our last filly, by Famous Bugs is growing like a weed.  She is also very nice to
handle.  John brags on her every time he catches her.  Her dam is by Brickhouse Bouncy out of
a Rare Jet Extremes mare.  I know the Dash Ta Fames are very trainable and the Brickhouse
Bouncy foals have a quiet demeanor without any spook or panic.  If you are looking for a nice
gelding, you need to stop by.  See the For Sale page for the current offering.

July 2, 2011.  I'm not too good at keeping this website or this blog up to date!  I have spent
most of the day trying to bring it up to date and place some ads.  We have some really nice
horses for sale and we need to get the word out.  For the past few months we have been trying
to catch up on our training program.  After our trainer retired, we have had some interesting
experiences finding someone to start young horses for us.  We're pleased that Sam Gallaher at
Welda, Kansas is riding for us now and we are pleased with the results.  The bad news was that
we had some nice horses getting older without advancing.  The good news is that Sam is riding
those horses and we are turning out some especially nice geldings to sell.  The other good news
is that these guys are mature enough to go on with and avoid a lot of those concerns about
physical and mental immaturity.  We have four nice geldings for sale age 4 to six and 2 of
them are listed on this site and advertised on Better Horses Classifieds, Barrel Horse World
or Working Horse World.  Take a look at Extreme Billy and Big Time Ticket.
We will be listing Buckskin Brickhouse, a beautiful 4 year old buckskin gelding who traces to
Harlen 2 times on his sires side and is out of a Rare Jet Extremes SI 102 mare.  He is riding
great and gets better and better as he continues to mature and get stronger.  We will also be
listing Extreme Contender, a five year old gelding by Title Contender SI 96 out of a Rare Jet
Extremes SI 102 daughter.  He is an extremely athletic horse with size and good bone and
feet.  He is a great barrel horse prospect.  He is greener than the other geldings and he went
back to Sam's last week for more training.  We hauled him to Eureka for the grandkids shodeo
and he stood all evening at the trailer without any fuss or bother.  Someone is going to love
this horse.  Title Contender is by First Down Dash and out of a Special Effort mare.  He is
the sire of futurity horses and a $100,000 slot race winner.

We had lots of fun at the shodeo.  We had four grandkids 8 and under riding in the shodeo.
Grandfather John got to do lots of leadline classes.  We gave Adam's Rare Jet to the
Perrier's to ride and also took Rosie the Pony to them.
